Google, Others Shake Kids’ Data Gathering Suit

A California federal judge has shut down a putative class action accusing Google, Cartoon Network, Mattel and a handful of other companies of illegally collecting children’s personal information through YouTube for targeted advertisements, finding that the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act expressly preempts plaintiffs’ state law privacy claims. This Law360 article is paywalled.
