In this The Deep View article, Brenda Leong breaks down the recently announced Global Dialogue on AI Governance by the United Nations, an initiative aimed at building “safe, secure and trustworthy AI systems”.
A potential hold-up to the initiative, she explains, is the fact that the three biggest contributors to the AI transformation – the United States, the European Union, and China – have drastically different approaches to regulating it.
That being said, the UN may still be able to influence areas where there’s “convergence” between the regions, Leong said, as creating technological standards and setting definitions can make “everybody’s lives better.”
